Pro-Ject Audio Systems was founded by one of Austria’s leading high-end audio distributors, Heinz Lichtenegger, in early 1991. A genuine music lover and a dyed-in-the-wool audiophile, Heinz challenged the common “cost-no-object” approach to analog audio equipment by manufacturing turntables, tonearms, and accessories at a reasonable price without compromising build quality or sonic performance.
With his passion for high-end audio fueling a desire to take a familiar industry in a new direction, Heinz proceeded to use Pro-Ject Audio Systems as a locomotive to bring high-end gear to the masses. Since then, Pro-Ject has been steadily gaining steam to assert itself as one of the most respected names in affordable, audiophile-grade analog gear.
By adhering to that philosophy while still only using quality electronic components that deliver sound that far exceeds their stature, the engineers at Pro-Ject redefined what is possible in high-end audio and proven that great things do come in small packages.
High fidelity as it was intended. Pure, simple… and at the right price. From turntables that fit almost any budget to high-quality tonearms for upgrading almost any deck, we make sure your vinyl collection gets the top shelf treatment it deserves.
A Classic turntable with superior tonearm that reaches magical performance levels
1-Xpression Carbon is the 6th generation of the hi-fi classic Pro-Ject 1, which was presented for the first time in 1991. No other entry-level turntable concept is more audiophile and the current version includes a totally new carbon tone-arm with spin-off “EVO”-technology. It’s new innovative gimbal design features a resonance damping counterweight, that allows best performance for any cartridge. The engineered belt drive design offers low noise AC motor with effective motor decoupling. The complex main platter construction cannot be found elsewhere in this price range and is similar to the much higher end Xtension models. It uses advanced thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) in a sandwich with steel alloy for optimized resonance behavior. The platter bearing axle is made from low tolerance chrome-plated stainless steel running on a Teflon bottom in a bronze bearing housing. The turntable main plinth is made from low resonance MDF, which effectively is decoupled from structure-born noise by special absorber feet, that also use TPE technology.
Vinyl Cleaner VC-S
Pro-Ject’s VC-S record cleaning machine is a radical new development in vacuum-based cleaners. It’s super powerful and can clean a record in just a couple of rotations (best is 1 turn forward, 1 turn backward). It also features a new type of clamp that seals the record label from cleaning fluid and avoids damage to the label. The VC-S uses a robust metal arm, which is easy to use, mechanically stable as it involves no springs. The big container (2,5 l) for used fluid shows fill-up capacity and guarantees no spillage of used cleaning fluid.
