As fans of cutting-edge electronics and high-quality components, we’re constantly keeping an eye out for the next big thing hitting the market. And for home-theater aficionados, that thing has officially arrived and now is in full swing: 4K TVs and projectors.
Just like movie buffs lining up for a summer blockbuster, many shoppers want their home-viewing experience to be bigger, sharper, and more memorable. Offering four times the definition of standard high-definition, 4K TVs and projectors are not only gaining in popularity, they’re primed to become the standard. While regular HD screens feature 1080 pixels (measured across the height of the screen), a 4K TV or projector packs in close to 4,000 pixels in the image (measured across the width of the screen). Of course, more pixels means that the screen can showcase more information, resulting in sharper images and a more engaging viewing experience when viewed at the proper distance.
Unlike 3D televisions, 4K TVs and projectors aren’t pulling off any fad-like stunts. They’re simply packing in more resolution onto the screen, allowing regular HD content to look its best. Additionally, content made specifically for 4K is already becoming available in the marketplace, allowing TVs and projectors to stomp on the gas pedal and show off their horsepower. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are currently offering some of their media in 4K, and Victor Matsuda of the Blu-ray Disc Association Global Promotions Committee has assured customers that 4K Blu-ray items will be here in time for the holidays.
Vibrant images, deep contrast, and extended colors are on full display with a 4K TV or projector, and the difference can especially be seen up-close. 4K viewers can’t spot individual pixels like they can on a standard-definition TV, which also provides a huge benefit to shoppers who will be doing their TV watching in smaller-sized rooms. In addition to the higher definition, up-close viewing will allow customers to fill more of their visual field with the screen, offering a truly immersive experience. It’s like plopping a movie-theater screen down in your own living room.
